She has a long history of creating innovative EFT scripts and using EFT to help people get past the problems in their life.

She produces a newsletter called Attracting Abundance. In issue 146 she discussed the idea of a gratitude experiment. That is you go twenty four hours or more giving thanks for everything that has happened to you. You take the idea that everything that the universe presents you is there for your benefit. Whither it appears good or bad at the moment, it happened as either a setup for future good or adjustment to your direction, or is just a good thing you don’t realize yet. I try to maintain this belief on a daily basis but I won’t tell you that it’s not hard sometimes.

Carol supplies EFT scripts to help you clear out some of your initial reservations to this. Her scripts work well and I recommend you try these for this experiment.

I have not seen much feedback on this in later newsletters, but I don’t know how much participation she got.

In any case, do try this. It’s an attitude that I promote too. I also suggest that you sign up for her newsletters. She has a lot of insight into using EFT for problems and creating abundance.

Carol’s Newsletter 146: http://www.attractingabundance.com/newsletters/issue146.html

I recently started a project that I’m calling the Bob Proctor Experiment. The reason being that Bob Proctor made several statements in a recent video that started me on this project. Bob has recently started a membership site that he calls ‘Six Minutes to Success’. He put together several videos to explain the site that were excellent. I recommend that you see all of them.

In the videos he talked about the path he took to success. He went from very humble beginnings to making a good salary in a very short time. He credits this to the steps he took in training his subconscious in successful ideas. The method he used to get these thoughts into his subconscious was repetition. He started listening to a recording of ‘Think and Grow Rich’ daily and continued this for years. Once he started listening to the recording he started seeing life differently and recognizing opportunity where he had not before. This simple method radically changed his life. His membership site expands on this by offering inspirational videos every day. The plan being to listen to the six minute videos every morning or evening. This will implant the successful ideas in your subconscious and also change your life. It seems like a reasonable plan.

However it got me thinking. Is this idea of repeatedly playing a success classic still a valid way to make changes? My belief is that it is. So to test the idea I decided to choose a classic and live with it for an extended time. I made up my mind that I was going to play ‘The Science of Getting Rich’ by Wallace Waddles continuously in my car for the rest of the year. In the mean time I will observe my life and see what opportunities present themselves.

Unlike Bob, I chose ‘The Science of Getting Rich’ over ‘Think and Grow Rich’ for several reasons. The first was a practical one. I had a recorded version of TSOGR and didn’t have one of TAGR. This reduced the start up costs. The second was more personal. I like TSOGR much better than TAGR. I like it’s emphasis on growing into wealth from where you are now. I also feel that it has a more spiritual tone and that it’s focus is more in tune with creative endeavors. This book was one of the inspirations for the movie ‘The Secret’ and explains the movie’s ideas much better. TAGR always felt more focused on goal attainment and pushed a multitude of success rules. I wanted to try a softer direction.

I have now been listening to the recording for two months. I have to report that one major positive thing and many small ones have happened to me. My cell phone company went crazy and basically dumped me. Another company came in and offered me a plan that was remarkably better with an incredible phone for free. Small events seem to happen in my favor more often. I am becoming more positive that my goals will be reached.

So, good things are happening so far. I’ll keep you updated on my progress in doing things in the ‘certain way’ promoted by TSOGR.

NOTE: This experiment is named after Bob Proctor as a tribute to his many years of work and efforts mentoring to millions of success seekers. He has been a leader in the personal development field for years. Bob was a pivotal speaker in the movie The Secret. He does not endorse this experiment or stand behind it in any way. I am not an affiliate for any of his products. I do recommend you listen to his videos and recordings. It will be worth your time.

Will Smith has had a life of incredible success. He has pursued a dream that many have but few achieve. His long string of roles in movies has defined box office success. In a Hollywood world of craziness and shattered lives Will has maintained a long term marriage and solid family. He found his dream and kept the things that make life worthwhile. There is much to admire and model in this man’s life. This is a series of clips from interviews where Will talks about the ideas that got him here. This is advice that anyone who follows a dream can use. Listen and learn.

What are you choosing today? Realize that everyday you make choices on a thousand different things. They may be good choices or bad choices. You may not be making an active choice. If not, you are choosing the default. Is that the right choice?

It may not matter to you. But the bigger question is ‘Should it?’. Many choices appear to have no consequences to you or anyone else. The problem with choices is that they add up to defining your life. Years of choosing not to exercise is going to affect your quality of life. Years of choosing to waste your free time is going to affect your wealth. Years of choosing to neglect your kids is going to affect their life. So, choices do matter.

Your choices steer your life. They define your direction. You may not have made the best choices in the past. You could be going in a direction you don’t really want. You don’t have to continue in that direction. You can make better choices starting at any time. Today could be your day.

So take a look at your choices. Make a choice that puts you in a positive direction. It doesn’t have to be hard. Eat an apple rather than a doughnut. Walk to the mail box rather than drive to it. Read something worthwhile rather than watch that reality show. It’s easy to start a new direction. Then tomorrow do the same thing again. Before long these positive choices become habits. Other positive choices become easier to make. You will find yourself on a new direction before you realize it.

Start the process of getting your life where you want it. Examine your choices and figure out where you are going. Then just start the process. Tony Robbins is famous for saying change takes place with a decision to do something different. You can make that decision too. Chose to be better, stronger, and happier.

You’ve read the books and gotten fired up. You are going to hit those goals hard this year. You write out your top ten list of goals and put them where you can see them daily. But you look at that list and realize that these are the same goals you had last year and the year before that. They look good but they don’t seem any closer to being done this year than the last. Why is this? The reason is that these are not your passions. They are what you think you need to do for some reason you are not really sure of. They seem good but they don’t make you wake up at night with great ideas to meet them. On a deep level they don’t inspire you and they sure don’t fire you up. You need goals that ignite a hunger in your soul and a deep need in your heart.

Now wouldn’t you think that a desire with that kind of passion would be kicking you in the back of the head every day of your life? Well, it might or it might not. Minds can be quirky. Desires get hidden by any number of things. Fears and limiting beliefs can keep you from finding your true passions. Your beliefs can put up walls you never see. The scary thing about that is not that you think of those passions and decide not to pursue them. The scary thing is that you don’t think of them at all. You never get the opportunity to even consider them. Your subconscious just puts them out of your thoughts.

So, you may think of yourself as just having no idea what you really want to do. What’s really happening is that all the great things you could be doing are being hidden from your conscious mind. You secretly believe that you couldn’t be more than you are now and rather than even consider the possibility you just don’t think of other ideas. Your life becomes the same as it always was. What could you do if you tried? Greatness could be yours.

This is the greatest argument ever for pursuing a life long program of self development. Find those limits and look at them with a critical eye. Could you be the next great artist or athlete? Could you be a famous actor or director? No one knows but you. Work on those limits. See if they are real or just some belief that your fourth grade teacher told you. Where are your dreams leading you? Follow your muse a little. Even hidden passions and talents leave clues. Ask ‘why not’ rather than say ‘no way’. You may not want to go that path and that’s OK too. But you won’t know unless you look. So dream a little and follow that quest.

Quest On…

He had been fighting heart disease for some time. It’s been officially announced now. It’s true. He was a man of incredible influence. Everyone from Tony Robbins to Vic Hanson claims him as a primary teacher in their life. I myself have listened to his CD’s, and read his books and newsletters. His business philosophy of personal responsibility and creating value in the market place have pointed many people to success. He had a kind of family, grandfatherly way of leading you on the path.

He spoke to thousands in forty years of seminars. I wish that I might have attended one but I never had that option. Now all we have left is his CD’s, his videos, and his books and newsletters. He was one of the giants of the success and motivation industry. He will be missed. I wish him well in his next journey.

I belong to a small group of business people that meet once a month and talk about business related issues. Mainly they are business consultants and small businesses owners. The people at this group are all self employed in some capacity. Some are retired and working for themselves. Some have escaped cubicles and are working to build their own businesses. The range of experience varies widely. Some have done this forever. Some have just opened shop. It’s a good mix. We meet at a local restaurant for dinner and discuss various topics for about two hours. Most of the time it’s around a hour and a half. Lots of times people hang out and keep talking. It’s great. Honestly, most of my friends are employed by larger companies. They have the mindset of people employed by large companies. What I like about this group is that they don’t have that mindset. They have a different energy about them. It’s an underlying positive current. I look forward to the meetings. No matter what I feel like when I get there, I leave with a different attitude. I’ve spent two hours with people who are making things happen. Sure they have problems but they are working on the solutions to them. I can’t help but feel more positive when I leave. These people are doing what I want to be doing and they are successful at it. People pay them for their knowledge and creativity. I have direct evidence that it can be done. What could be more empowering than that?

So, great for me hey. I’m sure you’re wondering how that fits into your quest. Not everyone could belong to this group. Well, this isn’t the group for everyone’s quest. The message is that you need to find people that share your passion. Success is a team sport. If you can find one other person that shares your passion, your chances of realizing it are hugely better. Nothing will keep your motivation higher than spending time with people who are successful at what you want to do.

That may not appear easy to do at first. But if you look around you can find people who share your passion. Look for a club or class that deals with your interest. You may need to create one if one doesn’t exist near you. Internet forums and blogs can get you connected to like minded individuals. If your interest has a professional organization then it might pay to belong to it too. Access to people who are doing what you want to do is a powerful boost to your quest.

Why is this? It comes down to two factors. The first is motivation. You see people doing what you want to do. It’s easy to think that no body ever succeeds at achieving your passion when you are the only one you know interested in it. If you know someone doing it then you have evidence that it can be done. If one person is doing it then you could be doing it too. If two or three people you know are doing it then it becomes why aren’t you doing it. Peer pressure is not always a bad thing.

The other factor is the combined knowledge and idea generating power of a group. Napoleon Hill called this a mastermind. I know you’ve all seen it. You get a few people talking about some problem and all of a sudden all these ideas start coming up. If you can find a group of people involved with what you want to do, then you have a powerful resource for making it happen.

If you are actually going to fulfill your quest, you are going to need people around you that share your passion. That support is what’s going to get you through the rough spots. You need some people who are going to listen to your dreams and say ‘yea, I thought about that too and here’s what I did about it’. Your friends at the office, who’s outside life is the latest TV comedies, are not going to really understand. The bad thing is that by doubting your ideas, they are going to feed the doubts that you have. Before long you will be spending your time watching the same TV shows and your dream will be something to be done sometime in the far future.

So, find some people who have similar passions to yours. They can do wonders for you and in return you will help them stay on track. Success is a team effort. Working alone makes for a hard and lonely trip. Don’t worry about not finding them. The law of attraction will work for you. The light of your passion will draw those who share it. Just look for them.

I’ve been discussing co-working lately and I discovered an interesting variation of it. Co-working is strongly connected to a community of like minded souls who like to work together. We’ve been talking about people meeting at a central location with helpful facilities. In other words somewhere to go and get something done. As you would guess this relates to the group of people as well as the location. Well, as it turns out you don’t necessarily need a fixed location.

In 2006, a few friends started getting together to work on their various projects. They met at someone’s apartment or other agreed upon spot. (library, coffee shop, any office area with wi-fi) They put together a web page and before you knew it a movement was born. They call them ‘Jellies’. People started doing them all over the place. You can find local ones listed on their web page.

If you don’t have a local co-working space, you might check and see if a jelly is happening near you. If not, you may want to think about starting one. The web site has advice on this and they appear helpful. It could be the start of entrepreneurial community and maybe even a regular co-working space could be developed from this. This is an exciting option for the single entrepreneur or telecommuter. So, give this a shot. Expand your connections and create a support network.

Co-working spaces are different from other rental properties. Their attractiveness to new members is not just based on the facilities and amenities. Their completion for members is wider and more varied than you would think. The members could be working at the library, or coffee shop, or even on their kitchen table. There must be more than just space offered. That thing is community. A successful co-working space offers a community for the members to belong to. Otherwise people might as well be at the coffee shop or all-night diner.

This community could be built up around the space or pulled in from an existing organization. Our local co-working space, Spark Plaza pulls from the successful local group, Geek South. This group has been around for years serving to bring together a mix of technology and entrepreneurs. You could not have chosen a more complementary pair.

The other option is to build a community around the space. Members could be recruited from the local entrepreneurial base. This would require developing some method of contacting them and offering them benefits that they value. It can be done but this is the harder option.

Co-working spaces have a lot in common with clubs. The members interact with one another and must feel comfortable working there. If the membership is not from an established club it may take some time to develop a core community. However once that happens you have a successful operation that will draw people to it.
